The Tower of Babel, Genesis 11: 1-9
Reading the Bible:
Babel's tower
11: 1 The whole earth Had only one language and the same words. 2 But it happened that when they emigrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. 3 Then they said to one another, "Come, let us make bricks and burn them with fire." Thus they began to use brick instead of stone, and pitch instead of mortar. 4 And they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower whose Peak reaches heaven. Let us make ourselves a name, lest we scatter on the face of the whole earth. "
5 Jehovah went down to see the city and the tower that men built. 6 Then the LORD said, "Behold, this people is united, and they all speak the same language. This is what they have begun to do, and now nothing will prevent them from doing what they set out to do. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse His language there, so that no one understands what his companion says. "
8 So the LORD scattered them from there on the face of the whole earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 Therefore the name of that city was Babel, because Jehovah confused there the language of the whole earth, and from there scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
