Had another post censored on Facebook and it more and more makes me wanna use steemit more.

in #censorship8 years ago

This is just a very quick small rant to point out what happened.

Looks like Facebook censored another animal abuse video that I shared.. I guess seeing what is really happening in the world is too much for some people.

Pretty frustrating.. More and more makes me wanna keep moving away from Facebook and toward more free and open and uncensored social media sites like steemit.

Really glad this social platform was created. It's almost a refuge in a sense. -.-

Sort:

It normally gets censored because there are children on Facebook. Showing videos of animal abuse on facebook is like when my mother showed me photos of syphilis when I was 5 so that I wouldn't date girls who sleep around everywhere

Children aren't suppose to be on Facebook, or they are suppose to be on the children's version.
And the same logic would apply to steemit if there are children on Facebook they are here as well.

Additionally I don't think your example is very accurate or fair. You're like discounting all of the adults who don't realize a lot of this kind of stuff is happening. And in a sense they may be infantile in their ignorance, but it is no reason to deny them of that knowledge.

Whoever had it taken down, was acting like a child though.

No that example is very accurate and fair. Animal abuse happens just as STDs happen, plus it's one thing to say children aren't meant to be on Facebook, but it's another to keep them off Facebook

I also think sharing graphic videos of animal abuse is one thing, but explaining to children about animal abuse is another. Being blunt, sharing animal abuse videos is clearly for shock value

Nope.. You seem to have a very confused view of the implication and meaning of your own words.. Implying that sharing knowledge with adults is akin to sharing information with children who can't even really comprehend such and who aren't really in a position to do anything about it.

Saying STDS and animal abuse happen is no reason to stop bringing awareness to the subjects.
That's really bad logic.. It's like saying hey.. Wars happen and greed happens and corruption happens, so don't show people the reality of it! Lol..
Really? Are you seriously implying that?

Once again. In regards to children on Facebook you could use the same argument on steemit. I've seen young children on here as well. It's a rather irrelevant point.

And no.. You are 100% wrong with your assertion that it's for shock value, I have zero interest in shocking people just to shock people.. I have better things to do with my time and my life. I personally posted it for educational purposes and many other people do too. That is an incredibly narrow biased perspective of yours to imply that. It's actually hard for me to believe you even said that.

Explaining things to people is good and important and you can do both it's not an either or situation, but oftentimes words will never ever have even close to the same effect of seeing the reality of it for yourself.

The video I shared that was censored actually made significant change in the market, and led to boycotts and the companies involved changing their policies.. but, hey.. Don't let that change your already made up mind!

PS I really hate it when people try to censor injustice. Please stop belittling and discouraging the efforts of people who are trying to raise awareness in the world against injustice. It's really disturbing.

I hope you wouldn't mind if I share videos of ISIS beheadings and executions and show your children then

Because hey, it's not about shock value, it's about showing people that this is reality

So.. Because children might see something on social media for adults, we should just stop showing and sharing the reality of the world? Are you serious????

How about, parents do their job and don't let their kids on social media. how about that? instead of censoring the whole fucking world.
smh

I guess we should outlaw porn too! Cause kids can go on the internet and find it! Let's ban everything!

By the way, if it means countless animals won't be tortured and have their fur ripped from their bodies while they are still alive and with no painkillers, I think it's a fair price to pay.

A child seeing what happens in the world versus.. Countless animals being tortured.. HMMMM. I wonder.

I feel you.
