Is Free Speech Alive and Well in America?

According to this, it appears that it is not.  Three professors co-teaching a “Medical Humanities in the Digital Age” course at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs e-mailed their enrolled students informing them that anthropogenic climate change would not be open for debate.   It goes on to say that the "other side" of the climate change would not be taught nor discussed in the classroom setting or in the online forums.   Well there you have it folks, straight from the professors mouth.   Climate change is a human-made occurrence and that is all.  You do not get an opinion about it.  Is this what the future of American college campuses look like?

In other news, shoutout to the University of Chicago for sending their new upcoming Freshmen welcome letters informing them that freedom of speech and expression is not only welcome but encouraged.  Citing their lack of support for trigger warnings, safe spaces, and including statements such as

“You will find that we expect members of our community to be engaged in rigorous debate, discussion, and even disagreement. At times this may  challenge you and even cause discomfort,”

It is time to take the power back from these college institutions and place it back into the hands of the students who are paying good money for a quality education.  They must be offered and challenged to some sort of opposition especially while in college.  This is the time that their young minds are being developed, learning coping skills, and ultimately how to adapt to the world around them.
