THE ILLUMINATI OF STEEMIT: WITNESS
Some tremble to hear the mention of its dark name "Witness" others dream of being bitten by one of its members to become one of those beings of darkness.
But the truth is that these (Witnesses), as they are told in Spanish, keep a secret jealously, they also need votes!
Today I am going to share the knowledge I have acquired from this dark technological sect, directly from the wise: google, youtube, wikipedia and mouth of mouth.
BLOCKCHAIN
Before entering directly into the witnesses we must understand that it is the Blockchain or "Block Chain" that is the technology on which STEEMIT is based.
A chain of blocks, also known by the acronym BC (from English Blockchain) is a distributed database, consisting of block chains designed to prevent their modification once a data has been published using a reliable time stamp and linking to a previous block. The data stored in the chain of blocks is usually transactions (eg financial) so it is common to call the data transactions. However, it is not necessary that they be. We could really consider that what are registered are atomic changes of the state of the system. Let's see what we understood about BLOCKCHAIN:
1.- The blockchain is a database: A place where information is stored in an orderly and systematic way (financial data, stories, books, music, videos, memes, pornography, anything that can be converted into data)
2.- It is distributed: It is in several logical or geographical spaces (come on, that is in several computers around the world)
3.- Use peer to peer (P2P): This is another technology that means point-to-point, which means that the information does not depend on a server and a client, but is disseminated on the network and even when one of the computers is not connected or available while another has the information, this may be requested. (Do not go crazy you used Ares, Torrent and other tools like that to share information;)
4.- Confirmation of data: Well here comes the safe part of the topic, each block must be confirmed by several of the nodes (servers ... computers that have the information) to verify that there is no cheating or corruption of the data.
What is a WITNESS? (Witness)
We speak that in blockchain there must be some computers connected to validate the information in a consensual way, (your steems when you take them out for example or the article that you just upload to the network) . This is a very heavy computational work that as blocks are added and transactions are encoded merits more powerful machines, this is where the happy WITNESS come in.
THESE LORDS VALIDATE THE INFORMATION AND MAKE IT AVAILABLE TO THE NETWORK, in a safe and consensual manner.
To be witness you need at least one computer with good features, especially memory, because the information of the entire blockchain chain is processed in RAM, then merits equipment that is not economical.
Now every time a block is validated (it is mined) in steemit a profit is generated for the witnesses, it is the PAYMENT FOR THE SERVICE THAT THE NETWORK IS PROVIDED, and although you can be encouraged to set up a server tomorrow I want to tell you that It is not a profitable investment in the short or medium term ... (At least not now)
The reason for this is that those gains for validating blockchain blocks (minar) also depend on the votes that the witness has.
WITNESS ARE ALSO VOTED
Every 21 seconds 21 blocks are produced in steemit (with a rest of 3 seconds between each round)
The 19 most voted Witness have the right to undermine a block in each cycle.
1 block remains for a reserve witness.
1 block to be raffled among the rest of the witnesses, which also influences the position in which they are voted.
WHY VOTE A WITNESS?
The reasons are many, firstly that they are doing their job well validating the information (that your server does not fall every 2 days and slows down) but you should also consider that the witnesses to win the favor of the mortals also create services, lend help and generate value to the platform in different ways.
EVERY CANDIDATE MAKES HIS CAMPAIGN
