What the chat says about the carnival
In this edition of the Cervantes magazine we will be talking about Carnival, and I’m going to be in charge of the Sainetes section.
The Carnival is a costume party, or at least that’s how i know it for.
In my country, Spain, we celebrate it by disguising as all kinds of things, from the most typical, like animals, police, firefighter, doctor, nurse, to the opposite sex, men usually do this. And, it's very funny to see men with beards disguised as women.
There are also 2 celebrations that are:
The comparsa: It’s a group of people who gather at the carnival in the streets and start playing music.
The chirigotas: They are shows, usually also in the streets, where they play humorous couplets.
This week we asked in the chat, how the users celebrate Carnival. And, at first people did not want to respond, they seemed unhappy with the celebration of Carnival, but soon after they began to come out with answers, one after the other:
In this image we can see that within Venezuela, depending on the region, the tradition varies. And, in some areas they disguise themselves, they throw papers and streamers, something really similar to Spain, but in other areas everyone throws water at each other, and people's clothes get dirty.
How do people get dirty? In the next image they tell us:
Wow, that’s amazing!
I understand that for this reason several of the chat users don’t like this holiday.
It is interesting to know how the same party is celebrated differently in each country and not only that, also in different areas of the same country.
I would love to see in the comments how Carnival is celebrated in your country or in your area. Do you live in a country different from Spain or Venezuela? In the area of Spain or Venezuela where you live, is it celebrated differently?
