Can we add Mathematics as a new top level forum on chainBB?

in #chainbb8 years ago (edited)

Hi @jesta, I'd really like to test it out as a helpdesk and student interactive environment, before the trickle becomes a flood of forum requests! It would be great if older and better students were rewarded by helping those with questions and difficulties. This means there does not always have to be "a teacher" there to give out answers. Same, of course, for every other subject studied.

In the future there would probably be a top level Education forum with Mathematics as a sub-forum.

The tags I have seen so far are: mathematics, maths [used in UK Aus], math [used in US Can]. Have not seen other obvious ones such as mathematics-help [plus all variations such as mathshelp etc].

I have already come across some educators and students on Steemit. Please upvote this proposal to show your support for the idea. Thanks!

I like it! I'm planning on doing a little reorganization of the forums soon, and an "Education" top level with subject sub-forums seems like a great idea.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Education forum coming up! There are so many skilled and knowledgeable people on Steemit, and I'm sure organizing education here on chainbb will make it available to many more people!

well #math is a rather small community. A month ago my math posts hit trending with $0.30 value on them :D. Maybe we can get more people into it with a forum. Would be great!

Yes, I've noticed how small the whole education community is at the moment - but think of how huge education is globally on the net! Just on maths, the main Mathematics community on G+ has 200,000 members, my own blog over 50,000 followers. Before I promote a mass migration, I would like to see at least a structure that people can see.

I also think that Education is the biggest under-monetized sector in the world - compared to people blogging about money and health, educators have little earning potential from advertisers. I've been seeking a way to micropay educators for 20 years - the tech is now here!

Gotta go to work now, back later.

I think we need @mathworksheets to become math-trail.

Yes I think a top level mathematics forum would be valuable. If possible, can we also add sub forums for specific fields e.g. linear algebra, calculus, probability and statistics, etc.?

I am in favor of this idea. I have begun creating Math tutorials under the tag #runthemath. You are welcome to link to them anywhere else if it is appropriate to do so.

Many thanks. I already follow you, so have seen your work :-)

There's a Mathematics forum on the homepage now :)

Brilliant, thanks!

Do you have an overall plan for sub-forums and sub-sub-forums, specifically in Education, but also in general?

A sub-forum may warrant a special tag eg EduMathematics, and a sub-sub-forum, say, EduSecondaryPhysics.
I read that only one hyphen can be added in a tag.
The reason for such long tags is that it is very easy to get 5 levels deep in sub-forums and then the poster has zero personal tags left - although perhaps not inherently a bad thing.
You may have a better idea for this.

Yeah, I'll have to look at how to do nesting even deeper. Right now the way it's working is somewhat hacky and needs a good revamp. I just pushed hard on it since you guys helping test all of this wanted more specific categories :)

mmm... I've just posted the above reply on steemit as I tried on chainBB twice and got an error msg - I've saved it.

Seems good
