I have been actively following the blockchain game ChainGuardians for a long time. At this point they have a playable Beta and are in the process of running their "Initial Dex Offering" (IDO) for their Governance Token.
For those who are not familiar with the game:
Chain Guardians is an upcoming anime and cryptocurrency/blockchain inspired turn based strategy game. Though it is a crypto inspired game, for the most part it looks and plays like a traditional game.
As the community is highly engaged at this point, they are running a series of contests. You can read more here.
A Cryptoverse Mining Encounter

Sitting on the command deck of The Minnow the Captain was surrounded by silence. The ship had been drifting through empty space for days in its quest for ore. As part of the Devex Mining Company, the crew could expect enough CGC to survive, but anything beyond that they had to earn. In order to stretch their fuel supply they relied on their momentum for much of the journey. Ever since The Gatekeepers arrived the competition for resources had been fierce, the only chance to eek out any profit was to explore longer and further than anyone else.
They traveled deep into unknown territory in hope of making a discovery, but had little luck thus far. It was beginning to look like they’d be forced to return empty handed. As that thought weighed heavily on the crew, the silence was finally broken by the beeping of the scanners.
Having been lulled off guard by the emptiness, it took several minutes to realize something had changed. If it had been a Gatekeeper ship they would likely have already been attacked. With a sigh of relief that they were still breathing, the Captain began barking orders to the crew. “Look alive everyone, we finally found something! Tactical, prep the shields.”
“Aye Sir!”
“Ops, status?”
“Systems green Captain. Navigation thrusters ready.”
“Comms, what’s the reading?”
“Unknown object approximately 300,000 klicks away. Appears manmade.”
“How’d we get so damn close?”
“The object is surrounded by some sort of energy shield. It's interfering with the sensors.”
“Scan for radio signals, they must be broadcasting something.”
While the rest of the crew waited, watching the object slowly grow larger, the comms officer searched for signals. Eventually he found a staticky message in an unknown language. It was playing on a repetitive loop, making it easy for the ship’s computers to translate.
“Caution. Approaching TGA Penitentiary Lambda One. This area is under quarantine by the Tether Governance Authority. Lucre Report is encrypted and broadcast every 20 confirmations.”
The Captain was intrigued, he had never heard of the Tether Governance Authority. With a slight smile he realized this find might be better than a minable asteroid, they may have encountered a new civilization. “Comms, translate and broadcast this on all shortwave frequencies: Lamda One, this is The Minnow of the Devex Mining Company, please respond. Over.”
As the Comms officer began broadcasting the message, the Captain ordered the crew to slow their approach and to carefully look for any buoys or other markers. The Gatekeeper’s attacks had left the cryptoverse on edge, they didn’t want to risk starting a fight. They slowed their approach and waited.
The minutes which passed felt like hours as the prison’s image continued to grow in the display. It was a simple looking space station, a single gravitational ring rotating around a central core. It looked ancient but was clearly still functioning. Eventually their patience paid off and they received a reply.
“This is Warden Knot of Tether Governance Authority Space Penitentiary Lambda One. Please cease your approach. Over”
With a nod towards the Ops Officer the captain signaled they should stop. “Request Acknowledged, stopping approach. Please explain the nature of the quarantine. Over"
"An individual who called himself Filthy Lucre attacked the Tether Governance Authority home world with a detachment of genetically enhanced soldiers. Even after capture he continued to sow discord and was moved to extreme isolation. Even verbal contact with Lucre has proven to be dangerous. Over."
As the crew heard the message they all thought the same thing, Gatekeepers. "Warden Knot, we believe this man may be a lieutenant of The Gatekeepers. They are a mysterious organization which is currently attacking the Bitcoin Alliance. They utilize similar tactics as you have described and frequently have unexplained powers. We request appropriate diplomatic protocols for contacting the Tether Governance Authority. Over."
The warden sent the instructions and promised to pass on their message about the Gatekeepers to the Authorities. Though the Captain wanted to obtain more information, he quickly terminated the call to avoid risk of verbal contamination. He carefully recorded the location of the prison and was hopeful this information would be worth much more than the standard 12CGC discovery reward. The excitement filled the crew with energy as they redirected the ship and headed home. It looked like this would be a bull run after all.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
I urge everyone to check out ChainGuardians. It has a great setting and you can play completely for free.
Be warned the game is currently in Beta and the reward loop is not yet implemented.
