Socio-economic challenges in Venezuela

in #challenge5 years ago

In Venezuela there are a lot of socio-economic challenges but my top 5 are:

  • Public transport: Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela, is a valley, so you have to move between mountains to go from one place to another. There is a subway with several lines, several bus routes and even a metrocable, however it is not enough to cover all areas of the city.

  • Poverty: Nowadays poverty is a matter of concern in the country that is affecting everyone with a minimum wage of 3$ per month.

  • Housing: Due to the income that Venezuelans have, becoming independent is an almost impossible task.

  • Roads infrastructure: The country is bankrupt and the streets are full of holes and lack of maintenance, causing cars to be damaged.

  • Basic services (water and electricity): For me, this is the challenge that affects my daily life most. 2 of the 7 days a week we get drinking water from the pipes, that means if you don't save water, you won't have water for cooking, shower, drinking, clean your house, etc. Also the lack of electricity is affecting our lives lately. Last year, all the country went out of energy for almost a week, which also means out of water. I think the solution in this case is maintenance, but that's in the hands of the government. For us as citizens, the solution right now is save water and be prepared in case of lack of energy.
