RE: "Go Beyond" Challenge #1 - with @evecab

in #challenge7 years ago (edited)

Thank you @futurethinker for another opportunity. Also, a big shout out to @evecab. Thanks

Now to the reason we are here....
One personal weakness that I would really love to overcome this year is the fear of failure

At the age of 9, I was taken from Lagos to Abuja to live with me older sister(11 years older than me) and her husband. My sister was all shades of strict and harsh; her husband didn't make it easier...
They flogged me at every little mistake any normal child would make, made me feel so pressured about my grades in school such that if I failed subject, I would get beaten, made me do manual labour that was beyond me that time.
I sincerely felt like a slave. It was a terrible experience that destroyed my self esteem. I couldn't speak out to talk or do things again because I was scared of being flogged or embarrassed in public. I cried almost everyday and at a point I became so scared to even come home after school or go on midterm breaks.

Because I was still young at heart and I lived with them for about 9 years, the fear became a part of me, I completely lost faith in myself and it has directly affected every area of my life...

Now, I still have that problem. I get scared of taking up new challenges, get scared of investing in great business ideas, get scared of pushing myself to the limit because I'll be scared I might fail and fail bad.

This year, I'm really hoping I can stand bold and overcome the fear totally because I've discovered that in life, it is people who are fearless that break new grounds...

No great person on earth has reached his great goals by living in "fear of failure"....

And that is why I cannot thank you enough @futurethinker. You gave me a very sweet JumpStart through the last contest you held.. Even though I participated out of fear and didn't expect to get anything out of it.
You made me believe more in myself that I can do anything if only I try...
I am forever grateful for the encounter with you @futurethinker.

I watched a video of Elon Musk onces when he talked about this. He said that he does feel fear. All the great achievers feel fear, but I think that the emotion of belief takes over, when they find it important enough.

For me I fear that I won't achieve anything, because I fear of doing it. To get where you want you need to take risks, but if you do nothing, to me that is more riskier. When I realised that It was easier for me do things differently, such as getting into crypto.

Thank you for sharing this. It made my day better :)

Thank you very much sire for the encouraging words too...

tough story you had as a kid!!! I'm glad that you are not letting your fear get in the way this time. Everyone feels fear or nervousness when trying new things, but you can challenge that into something positive. Use it as fuel to work extra hard. Once you've succeeded at something that scared you, you are even more proud of yourself.
