RE: Putting my money where my mouth is - A Community Challenge

A great initiative @merej99. Not sure if I will be able to reach all of the targets you have set but will enjoy myself trying. :)

Imay need a little technical support along the way as I am not the most proficient in this area. For starters it took me nearly twenty minutes to work out how to take a screen capture. :)

Also, I'm not sure how to credit images properly so if anyone could help me with this, that would be fantastic. :{)

I'm pretty active with commenting and curating as it is but need to start working on posting more myself so really glad of the kick up the backside that I hope this will give me! :)

Will have my first post up later tonight. Life has me kept busy right now!

Have a great day and thanks again.

Sort:

Here is my second of seven posts in ten days....another fun contest and hopefully a good few comments to go towards my target of 500. :)

I just stopped by your post. OMG, I am really so bad at telling jokes. I can't even think of a silly one off the top of my head. JOKE KILLER. Yup. That's me. lol

I'm not very good at jokes myself.....at least not the family friendly sort that I'm looking for. :)

The joke police are on their way to interview you concerning the recent spate of dead jokes. All the evidence points to you @meerj99! :)

Oh no! Dun dun dun!!!

Put down the joke and come out with your hands up! :)

Come an' get me coppers!

LOL - I didn't scroll down far enough before I responded to your last message. I just visited your post and that looks like a really fun art challenge! The citations look good too. Just be aware that some images from wiki sites are not always public domain. Otherwise, GREAT JOB!

One little recommendation. When you're writing try to make your first 100 characters an overview of your post otherwise it looks "junky" in the feed.

See how your image attribution shows up? That's because you didn't have quite enough text before the picture to hide it.

Thanks for the great advice @meerj99! I'm learning as I go.....but I can be a slow learner! :{)

@tonyr - I am really thrilled to see you taking up this community engagement challenge.

Of course we're here to help! As I was mentioning to @karenmckersie - 300 words minimum per post is not a lot. Heck, your comment here is nearly half that. LOL

Crediting images:
There are different ways to do this. I personally like to include the image source link after the photo.
Some people compile their links and post them at the bottom of their post.
All of your images should either be your own, or specifically public domain, or creative commons (whatever attributes the image requires). The very important reason for this is because some content is copyright material and can only be used with express written consent. Unfortunately a lot of people don't realize they can be severely fined if they're caught and it jeopardizes the whole site, especially if there is a DMCA claim against you. Bear in mind this is not limited to just Steemit, but it's appropriate for any platform where sharing content occurs.

Oh, I hope I didn't scare you with all that but it is an important warning to do the right thing all the time. Knowledge is Power.

Good luck with this challenge and don't forget to keep us up to date with your progress. :)

Hi meerj99! I'm actually just about to post my first of seven. I've done the best I can right now regarding image credits. I'm still not getting it spot on Iknow but if you ncould let me know if thats acceptable and if not I will change it asap.

Thanks again my friend!

The importance of crediting images is to make sure we stay on the good side of copyrights. :) My favorite place for free stock photos is pixabay.com most people who use that are content to say images are from pixabay and all's good. Just be careful of snagging photos off the internet. When you post your link I'll take a peek, okay?

I'm saving that Pixabaybresource right now! Thanks ;-)

Sorry for the late reply @meerj99 but thank you! :{)

Good to see you taking up the challenge Tony. This will be a fun one.

GENERIC MESSAGE FOR @tonyr

I'm getting organized! Please include the link to future challenge posts here. You do not have to copy your previous links if they have already been added to the Daily Diary. Thank you! <3 Meredith

@tonyr - just in case you missed it, I have the sister post to THE BEAST https://steemit.com/challenge/@merej99/sister-post-to-the-beast-community-engagement-challenge-housekeeping
Please use this link for future posts as this one is getting way too long. I do have this contest post updated on the spreadsheet. :)

A great help @merej99 as the last thread was getting pretty long. :) Just want to say again what a fantastic thing this is your doing and a great help to many of us taking part. And a quick mention also for @steempowerpics who I think has done a marvelous job and is a credit to the community. He is such a friendly and helpful guy and would like to nominate him for a special mention for going above and beyond in his support for your challenge as well as my own contest. We were friends already before taking part in the challenge but this has emphasised for me what a fantastic steemian he is and I feel he is going to be a bigger player in future in our growing community. If you could mark him out for a special mention in you next daily diary I would be very appreciative. :)

Steem on Meredith!! :)

I love seeing this.

This is what community engagement is all about. There are so many people who give so much to this community. Unsung heroes. ALL OF YOU!
Everyone who finishes will be getting honorable mentions, but I've copied this message for a special post...coming soon.

Oh, hey.... in case you didn't get the memo, we've got a new post for conversations and links at https://steemit.com/challenge/@merej99/sister-post-to-the-beast-community-engagement-challenge-housekeeping

Here is my third entry of the seven @merej99! Please let me know if I have done this correctly or do I still have to paste it on the main challenge page also.

Cheers! :)

Perfect! Doing this is so much easier to find the latest posts for everyone! This will be in Day 3 daily diary :)
Don't be offended, but your handwriting was so nice I thought you might be a girl. LOL

I' not offended. ;) That's not the first time I've heard that. :)

Not a problem! :)
