That post is part of the writing #challenge30days – a beautiful initiative of @dragosroua (you can read more about it HERE). It’s also a part of my plan to do Weekly Topics on my Steemit blog. The theme for the first 7 days of 2018 is Risk.
Are you the guy who always play safe?
Maybe you’re too logical and rational, that’s why you don’t like to mess with the odds?
Or maybe you assume you have too much to lose and that is the reason to stick only with familiar patterns and situations?
Or you secretly admit in front of yourself you’re just a coward. It’s your character, you know, there’s nothing to do about it…
I guess you won’t hear it for the first time, but: Playing safe is much more dangerous than taking conscious and smart risks.
Stay still and be dead
The thing is, the world is always changing. And not only, your friends are changing, your spouse is changing, your children do it, your colleagues and your boss are moving, your professional field is speeding up. Life’s always been like that, but in the quick digital Age everything goes faster.
So, what happens when you do not risk and risk is always kind of a change? You put yourself in the hands of occasional circumstances or someone else’s will. Doesn’t sound like a nice life to me.
Being bold is a must today. And it’s not about being absolutely fearless, reckless and unreasonable. It’s just you have to embrace the change and personally fuel it.
Where to start
In your mind and heart. You have to become aware why are you avoiding risk-taking and work on it.
Start small. Think of a thing small enough to be your first step. For example: Are you afraid to quit a toxic relationship because “friends don’t do that”? Or to express your opinion at work? Try it, the feeling afterward is amazing. And by taking everyday small steps you’ll get used to taking risks and prepare for bigger ones.
Write it down. Using a piece of paper and a pen is a key for almost anything.
Listen to your intuition. It’s a hard task because intuition is almost never logical. (I’ll have a Weekly Topic on Intuition later in January).
Embrace the potential failure. Just set in mind that you can either win or lose as a result of an action and IT’S OK.
Do a reverse list. Sit down and think of all the times in your life you were acting risky. I’m sure that you’ll find enough examples how well it works.
Have fun. Think of it as an adventure. After all, life is simply a game.
Any thoughts or tricks about overcoming the fear of risk-taking? I’ll appreciate if you share them in a comment!
I find mind mapping tools such as TheBrain have really helped me sort through road blocks of action. Thanks for posting... Keep it up.
