Matt Van Sol speaks on the "fag discourse" and why it's time to end this kind of speech and that loving another human being of the same sex doesn't make you gay, it makes you human.
The "Fag Discourse" is how young men in America refer to each other whenever someone is exhibiting "non-masculine" behavior. For example, someone might be called "Gay" or "Fag" for a particular way they say or do something like dancing, singing, dress, play a sport etc. A young man might be called a "faggot" for expressing emotion or someone may say "Pause" or "No Homo" after saying or doing something that may suggest "non-masculine" behavior. Realizing in college, that the "Fag Discourse" was very prominent and something I, myself, participated heavily in during my own teenage years in my upbringing as a straight typical alpha male, I felt I needed to express my regret in doing so and shed light on how this discourse continues to be alive and well today among most young men growing up in America, but it's time to change that way of thinking right now. Today, I decided to speak on it and remove the speech altogether from my vernacular, hoping other's will too. We have to end the hate speech that exist within in this discourse. It's time to teach our children that "Gay" is not synonymous for stupid or un-cool just like Muslim is not synonymous for terrorist. I believe change begins with education and conversation, and if you also believe it's time to end the hate that exist in our speech like "No Homo", "Faggot" and "pause" etc. and teach our children that it's okay to love in this world and that it doesn't make you "Gay" to express your emotions and that being Gay is not a crime and someone being Gay doesn't or shouldn't effect you in any way, then help me spread this message to our young men and children that hate speech is wrong, no more fag discourse, no more violence, and that change begins with education, conversation and love. Please share this message with someone you think needs to hear it and let's think twice about what we're teaching our kids and how our words impact the communities and the world we live in. Let's end the "Fag Discourse", let's end hate. Shot and directed by Jade L. Mathis
Well said! I homeschool my children which gives me lots of opportunities to teach them different ways to look at things. When they come home from community activities or even church activities and tell me about their experiences there are often words that they are not familiar with. I love having these times where I can teach them the real meaning of a word and show the negative intention. In our family we take back the real meaning and don't let the negative drive us.
