It is obviously not the age I grew up in.
Yet when I saw these three novelties, within 36 hours, I was surprised. Not "well, this is a fully curious and unexpected thing". More like "Dang, why didn't I think of that - and why did nobody else think of it like ten years ago, either?"
A traffic light specifically and especially for bicycles and the bicycle lane, on one of the city's main intersections.
A bunch of lock-boxes, at a grocery store. Not for depositing bags, because they fear theft, like in an electronics store. But so customers can charge their device while they shop. I keep my shopping list on my phone, so useless for me, but a long overdue convenience for many.
Lastly, the floor of the bus. Not a tour-bus or anything fancy. Just an omnibus, from the fleet of the local minicipal-ish transit company, utterly unremarkable in any other way. Yet instead of the usual, dark-plastic floor-coating, they went artistic. Obviously not hardwood, and not likely laminate. Rather, something durable with the wood effect applied to it. Still. Much prettier, and weirdly late in the game, like the other two. Making plastic look like wood, for consumer goods, I first heard about that in the 1990s.
