8 out of 10 Care Packages For the Homeless Bros Were Delivered Today...by Electric Bicycle!

in #charity7 years ago (edited)

@amandarichards had the bright idea recently of using my ebike to deliver care packages to the homeless who conveniently are camped out along the 40 mile bike trail near my house. I already ride that trail frequently, why not stuff a few of the care packages in my backpack and hand them out as I go?

I'm going to break my prior rule against posting photos of their tents, as otherwise I'd have little to no photos to share here and I got permission where possible. The parts of the trail pictured without tents were bereft of them and should offer no clues, like this path leading to a wetland.

Here's a pretty representative dwelling. I caught the occupant bedding down for the evening and was able to give him a care package. He seemed surprised by it, but receptive to using the items inside to attain some measure of immediate relief from the cold, wet weather.

I was able to deliver 8 out of the 10 packages that way, just finding people camped out in tents along the trail. Often with pets! I should include pet food in the next package revision. These settlements however, were unreachable due to being across the river on a secluded peninsula. Probably that's why they chose that spot, so cops don't hassle them.

...That's why I'm going to build a small electric boat, you see. What? Don't look at me like that. I have to reach those settlements to deliver the badly needed packages. A little bit of water is no excuse to turn back, I just need the right tool for the job. In this case probably an inflatable fishing boat and this 12 volt trolling motor.

The alternative would be a mechanism for my drone that would allow it to carry packages over the water, then drop them on command. I would have to get pretty low to the ground to drop them without damaging the contents however, which leads me to believe the boat is a superior solution, at least for now.

Stay Cozy!

Dude I have never thought US has that much of poor citizens :/ So what you are doing is so great! Respect the work bro!
After all, I like this photography! it's quite amazing and nature around it pretty awesome!
@alexbeyman,

Cheers~

It’s awesome how you think it as a necessity.. most people won’t even think of helping. The drone drops sound so futuristic and in the same time it is a practice already. :)

Another great job buddy, Feel good to see your work again. Respect to you.

You should buy a swimsuit and go diving I think you will like it :-B

Where do you find all these stones. They are definitely from other worlds.
With a couple xenomorphs inside.

With the looks of those clouds I bet they were all happy to see you, a small chance to stay a little dry. Yep a small lightweight inflatable raft to go with the motor, The battery will likely be the heaviest part of it all.

I've learned from this. Thank you. We pass these people everyday like they don't exist. I feel ashamed.
Though in Nigeria where i come from, one has to be careful when doing this. I will have to sift out the honest ones.

Alex - If this world has people like you, no one ever suffer from poverty... I think all Steemians should help you by upvoting you... Then you can help more people who actually needs our help...

+W+

The money goes to buying more care packages to give out, so I am inclined to agree.

GOD Bless you for being a good Samaritan.
Keep it up dude.
GOD will reward you too some day..

There is no meaning to giving if you do it for a reward. That isn't kindness, it's just obedience.

They say GOD will punish the wicked.
But rewards the good.

Great work buddy.God bless you.

Nice job sir. When you gave them packages and saw happiness on their face it gave very much relief.

If everyone makes an effort to make only 2.5% charity from his annual income ,it is estimated that there wud be no poor living on this world...

Like the previous post, this is a charity mission. but the interesting thing is there is an idea to make boats and drone to facilitate distribution.
if I can advise you, boat engine only, because it will be more cargo.
but if the drone seems more cool.
great brother...
