Help for the PALs

in #charity7 years ago (edited)

Hello steemians
Hello world.
Hope we are doing great today.
OK its all about PALs once more.

Who We Are
We are medical students, non-medical students as well as resident doctors with the heart to give back to the society, creating awareness to diseases, raising financial and material support, as well as giving free medical services to rural communities and beyond.

In line with the world leprosy day, we are set to create awareness and raise funds for the people affected with leprosy (PALs)

Our Goal

To improve the welfare of persons affected by leprosy (PALS)

Objectives:

• To educate the public on the disease.

• To speak against stigmatization of the PALs.

• To correct misconceptions regarding PALs.

• To advocate for increased support from corporate bodies and individuals for the welfare of the PALs.

Dr. Usende Johnson Sunday
Writes On his experience as he visited the homes of PALS with some of his colleagues. I @magdnrobinson was just behind the camera.

"I asked my friends whether they'd eat a meal prepared by a non infectious leper. All said No. In fact some said in a repulsive manner.
Well, with the understanding I had before I would have said 'Hell No!!!'
I have come to find out that it is impossible to get leprosy from some who has been treated and rendered uninfectious.
The problem is usually that the disfigured physique of Persons affected with leprosy leaves us with the impression that they are still infectious.
and we'll never want to go close to them so we can't contact the disease.
Fortunately the disease doesn't kill, what kills is our attitude towards them. Instead of avoiding them we can show them love and empathy.
Let's stop all forms of discrimination or stigmatization of Persons affected with leprosy."

We did a street view which was headed by myself and @gidionline.

On Saturday we were also out in full force to create awareness and talk to as many people as we can on the street, with music 🎶 playing as we march with a common purpose sharing a printed paper of what leprosy is about at glance.

What is Leprosy
Leprosy is a chronic, progressive bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae. It primarily affects the nerves of the
extremities, the lining of the nose, and the upper respiratory tract. Leprosy produces skin sores,
nerve damage, and muscle weakness. If it isn’t treated, it can cause severe disfigurement and
significant disability.

I had to blur their face for reasons not to cause any form.

on Sunday I was super excited, I wore my leprosy customized cloth to church that Sunday, after service, about three people came to me asking what it's all about, I told them, some were of the opinion that leprosy is caused by cockroaches, which I was able to clarify them on that.
one asked if I won't contract the disease by going to where they stay. I was also able to clarify her that, one can only contract it through close contact with the affected persons.

after much talk, the three people (ladies) told me I must call them when we are set to go. (super excited with that respond)

I waited and when it was 4pm I called Dr Usen, who addressed us via whatsapp that we can't go.
reasons being that

  1. The bus is not in good shape.
  2. The contribution we plan giving is not yet Tangible, hence we can't.
so he made arrangements for us to meet the PALs this Sunday.

I was not really happy.
I had already with this course sold 3sbd to be donated.

this morning, I got this message on the group. 👇
