I have bought STEEM, powered up, created quality content and have started work on a way to use steemit to change how people exchange goods with #steemaway . None of that has received much attention and I'm perfectly fine with that. I get it, new ideas and its a business.
Now fast forward to today where there is a campaign to raise funds to help a little girl fight for her life. It was done by a woman and has the support of thousands of people (potential new Steemers) right now looking at her SteemIt post (http://bit.ly/ZariahStrong) and its not even over a dollar. While at the same time there is the typical analysis's, opinions on whales and how to game the system. I believe in Steem and I see the potential. I also hear the statements about the important of bringing in as many new people as possible and supporting things of value for the Steem community.........well there is no better way for us to achieve all of our goals.
The future success of SteemIt has very little to do with big business. It is going to be how STEEM looks to the world. What did we do when we had a chance to do things different? Did we use this new strength and capital power to just continue the same social disfunction or did we keep the spirit of decentralization and self empowerment with endless acts of selflessness.
I will be watching STEEMIT very close today. This day for me will decide if this new found potential is here to save the world or to preserve the status quo for just a few elites.

Upvoted both your post and the girls post.
That being said, I'm not sure that this is because steem doesn't care.
I think there are 2 thing playing: people might be a bit distrustful of this kind of post, we've seen cases of people who post about their battle with addiction, where the post went trending, and eventually proved to be a hoax.
Second, and much less cynical, is bad timing, unpopular tagging,...
There are countless posts with people ranting how their posts where ignored.
My steem routine is as follows: I come up here, check the trending page, and than go through the new page, mainly the first half hour or so, and perhaps I'll check on some accounts I know.
If your post didn't catch my attention in the 2 seconds I gave your title, I'm sorry, but I'm not going to open it. If You posted at a time when I'm not going to be online in half an hour, I'm sorry but I will not have noticed it.
In any case, you did a good job bringing this post to people's attention :)
