Do you know how it feels like to be hungry? Not the best sensation right? Luckily, we can just open the fridge and look for something to eat or call the pizza hotline for delivery, or maybe just drive to the nearby restaurant. But imagine if you are kid in a far away village having little to no food on the table. Not being able to eat three times a day is indeed something we don't want anyone to experience yet it's unfortunate how this seems to be the lifestyle of many families in poor remote areas. Apart from having insufficient money to buy food, these kids are also deprived of having school supplies and toys to enjoy their childhood. To help these kids, we, the students of VISTEC in collaboration with student affairs department conducted a feeding program and gift-giving to a remote area in Ban Yup Taneng, Rayong Province, Thailand during the celebration of National Children's day.
We provided a transportation service to bring the kids from the villages to our venue, and we prepared a small presentation for them.
We then served various foods such as noodles, hotdogs, meatballs, fruits, drinks, desserts etc.
From the looks in their faces, I think they are quite happy. :) This time, we played a mini game where the kids had to form big circles and someone has to roam around and put an object to someone when the music stops.
And then we distributed some gifts such as notebook, pen, pencil, books, and toys to the kids.
My Thoughts
Doing community outreach programs has opened my eyes to the difficult situation of our less-fortunate fellows. This made me realize how fortunate I am to be in the position where I'm right now. I felt guilty for not being appreciative of the small things that I used to have.
Indeed, no matter how miserable you think your life maybe, there will always be someone who would rather choose to be in your position. Always be grateful!
