This is what faith can do. Well, faith and a generous FIAT exchange rate!
Some bold statements:
"Pine" is an individual worthy of emulation. A hobbyist, a saver, perhaps, a savior. Vast financial assets are in the hands of a concerned, socially conscious and humble world citizen. Not to say that a programmer/cryptographer can't be greedy and ill-intentioned. I wish "Pine" wisdom in selecting those charities that they will found or support.
As long as there is centralized electricity generation and fair and affordable distribution in the short-term, and the sooner that electrical power itself becomes decentralized, the Internet State will certainly thrive and may forever prosper.
With the rise of crypto-currencies, there should be plenty of space in urban hubs for the homeless in short order. In fact, though far from homeless, I always found bank vaults to be pristine and cozy (yes, even empty ones).
I believe the FIAT currencies will only be truly threatened in two or three generations as computer literacy and internet access become more widespread. For example, ask your mom what a QR-Code is. Ask your grandparents to upload a YouTube greeting. Ask your aunt to email you her recipes. Depending on who your relative are, these tasks are impossible: my mom has no clue, my grandparents are no longer with us and my aunt (one of them) doesn't own a computer. But I am in awe of the baby clutching a tablet pc and whizzing from app to app.
Naturally, oppressive, hypocritical governments fear anything that is decentralized. Consolidation and force are their lifeblood. Yet, this does not lessen the potential for political entities to do good and care for their populations.
But, maybe the BTC and cryptocurrency communities finally put the carrot in front of the stubborn ass' mouth. After eons of groups of people trying to chase down, persecute, blame and obliterate other groups of people who look differently, pray differently, fuck differently, think differently.....they've swiftly grabbed society by the sack. The sack of money. The brief case of cash. The bundled bricks of gold. The repurposed containers of metallic coins.
May those granted influence stand as sturdy as "Pine".

All Pigs Have Money, But Some Pigs Don't Accept Your Money (be it green cotton or colored paper or metallic discs or certain other shiny objects)!
