Jacob is a duck; with a fear, he could not battle.
He was afraid to swim, so he had a boat and a paddle.
He tried to swim, but just couldn’t do it.
He hopped in the water, but couldn’t get moving.
He would splash around thinking this decision wasn’t best.
So, he would grab his boat as he tried to catch his breath.
Jacob had no friends because in the water he couldn’t play.
So, all the other ducks told him to stay away.
So, Jacob would paddle and stay very far.
Then he met Clarice, the goose with a scar.
The scar that Clarice has, no goose has ever seen.
When she swam by others, they’d say something real mean.
Clarice asked Jacob, where are all your friends?
Jacob said, they think I’m weird, you wouldn’t understand.
Clarice said look at me, see this scar on my face.
I’m the ugly goose so we’re in the same place.
Jacob said no, you are real pretty to me.
Clarice said, I wish you would tell that to all the other geese.
Then Clarice asked why the boat, are you too good to swim?
Jacob said no, I’m just too scared to get in.
Clarice tipped the boat over and Jacob made a big splash.
Clarice said, I’ll teach you to swim, as she giggled and laughed.
For the first time, ever Jacob felt no fear.
He knew he would be okay, as long as Clarice was here.
So, they practiced and practiced for what seemed like forever.
Jacob splashing around and waving his feathers.
Clarice finally yelled calm down, you’ll be just fine.
Then Jacob took a deep breath and swam a straight line.
Jacob faced his fear and finally won that battle.
So now he’s no longer, the duck with a paddle.
