A full-stack China

With trade war escalating, China technology policy makers should be spooked enough to wanna decouple their stack away from global ecosystem as much as they can.

Seeing Apple, it'll be too tempting to build their own stack, top to bottom. This will be the narrative going forward even if trade war winds down.

If there's no need for global compatibility, why bother complying with silly things like TCP at all? This is not far fetched, if Apple can do it on computer scale, China can do it on ecosystem scale. The only moving piece is political will.

A new incompatible stack frees them up to create a superior internet, from protocol at the bottom to end user apps at the top.

With luck, there's even a chance for a grassroot rebuild of an internet that is private and decentralized by default without the need to be backward compatible.

Because if that doesn't happen, the only way forward would be a government-run Bigger Brother WeChat.
