ANTIDOTE TO SHORT LIFE

in #christian-trail7 years ago (edited)

I wonder why many lived a short life in this world without having accomplishment of all their desire. Little are those that were able to achieve their goals before they bid this world good bye. Though from the Bible life span has brought down to 70years from 120years. Still, some are not even getting closer to the age before they go.

Genesis 6:3 KJV
And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

Psalm 90:10 KJV
The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

While we may have different causes that may be pointed to as the reasons behind shortage of life, effort should be made to consider what the Lord has to say on it from his holy words, the Bible.

Exodus 20:12 KJV
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

This commandment of God is being overlooked by people of today. Elders of today, were children of yesterday. How they obey their parents determines how they live a longer life, all things being equal.

Another principle in there is that what goes around comes around as the Bible also confirm it that whatever you sow, you shall reap. Many a youth don't believe that their parents has reasons for giving out certain instructions to them. Just like an adage in my mother tongue which says "bí ọmọdé bá láṣọ títí kò lè lakisa bí agba" meaning experience of young people can not be compared to the elderly ones.

Other reason for short life is evil. Speaking evil orchestrating and perpetrating evil. Many young ones are found in the act of social vices today: killing, robbery, kidnapping, sexual harassment and raping to mention a few. Not knowing or ignoring the wrath of God upon doers of those things.

1 Peter 3:10-11 KJV
For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: [11] Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.

1Peter 1:10-11 (NLTV)
10 For the Scriptures say,
“If you want to enjoy life
and see many happy days,
keep your tongue from speaking evil
and your lips from telling lies.
11 Turn away from evil and do good.
Search for peace, and work to maintain it.

As for those perpetrators and disobedient who are fortunate to live a longer life, they have the consequences in stock for their children because our God is a God of vengeance.

Deuteronomy 32:35 KJV
To me belongeth vengeance, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.

If you desire long life and prosperity as we always wish people on their birthdays, obey your parents i.e good parents because not all the parents can be listened to. That is why the Bible say obey your parents in the Lord. This is not limited to your biological parent but those who are older than you.
Also eschew evil. The evil you do today will come after you tomorrow. It may not affect you but your children.

May we all live long. God bless you.
