Marriage at the Resurrection
MATTHEW 12:18-27 NIV 18 Then the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 19 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. 20 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died without leaving any children. 21 The second one married the widow, but he also died, leaving no child. It was the same with the third. 22 In fact, none of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died too. 23 At the resurrection[a] whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?”24 Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? 25 When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 26 Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’[b]? 27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!”
The Bible tells us, "At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven." (Matthew 22:30 NIV). This is Jesus' answer in response to a question about a married woman many times in his life - to whom did he marry in heaven. hat same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 24 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for him. 25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother. 26 The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh. 27 Finally, the woman died. 28 Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?” (Matthew 22: 23-28 NIV)? Clearly, there will be no such thing as marriage in heaven. This does not mean that a couple does not know each other in heaven. Nor does this mean that a couple still do not have a close relationship with heaven. However, what this implies is that a husband and wife are no longer married to heaven.
Most likely, there will be no marriage in heaven because it is not necessary. When God established a marriage, He did it to fill some needs. First, He saw that Adam needed a partner. " The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” (Genesis 2:18 NIV). Eve was the solution to the problem of Adam's sorrow, as well as his need for a "servant," a man who joined him as his companion and passed by on his side. In heaven, however, there will be no loneliness, nor will there be any need for assistants. Many believers and angels will survive. After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands (Revelation 7: 9 NIV), and all our needs will be met, with the need for fellowship.
Second, God created marriage as a way of raising and filling the world with people. Heaven, however, will not be extended. Those who go to heaven will come there by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; they can not be created there by multiplying. Therefore, there is no purpose for marriage in heaven because there is no expression or sorrow.
