The Pastor Al Chronicles, March 28, 2018

Pastor Al: You ought to rejoice at what the Church is doing to spread the gospel rather than grumble about what it's not doing to end abortion.

Abolitionist: Why is it “either/or” with you? Why not “both/and”?

Pastor Al: It's called “priorities”.

Abolitionist: Last time I checked, “loving your neighbor” was a priority.

Pastor Al: Preaching the gospel is “loving your neighbor”.

Abolitionist: So is “rescuing those being led to slaughter.”

Pastor Al: It profits a body nothing if the soul isn't saved.

Abolitionist: But how can the soul be saved if the body isn't saved first?

Pastor Al: The preborn are in God's sovereign hands.

Abolitionist: So are the heathen, yet you bend over backwards to take the gospel to them. Why don't you bend over backwards for the preborn?

Pastor Al: We have a very clear responsibility to take the gospel to the heathen. To rescue the preborn, not so much.

Abolitionist: “Love your neighbor as yourself” isn't “very clear”? “Rescue those being led to slaughter” isn't “very clear”?

Pastor Al: Not if the neighbor or the one being led to slaughter is someone who can't hear and understand the gospel.

Abolitionist: You know what you just did, don't you? You did exactly what the lawyer in the story of the Good Samaritan did. You qualified who “my neighbor” is so as to effectively exclude preborn.

Pastor Al: I didn't exclude the preborn. I merely prioritized them below those reachable with the gospel.

Abolitionist: To “prioritize” is to “qualify”. It's to relegate them to the bottom of the list. Which means that, just as you and the rest of the Church has done for the past 45 years, you'll get to the preborn only after everybody in the world has become a professing Christian. Which will never happen. Which means the abortion holocaust will go on being unaddressed by the Church to the end of time. Don't you see that?

Pastor Al: Nope.
