“Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.”
Psalms 119:11 NKJV
This is a truth, that most Christians ignore, the flesh is not curable, it can only be controlled by the use of regular medication.
A young man sat in my office, he has just done something unwholesome, that has painful consequences. Then looking extremely sorrowful, he asked, how? How did I get here? It is a common question, when a careless captain, doze at the helms, and wake up to find himself far off course. We all are captains of our individual lives, and if you allow the tides to control your movements, you will definitely drift south. Drifts occur ever so slowly, and unnoticeably, all seems normal until the drifting stop at the harbor of sin.
I asked the repentant young man a couple of questions. When was the last time you fasted privately to enjoy the presence of God ? How often do you take a break just to feed on the word of God ? Who is the man or woman that you report yourself to regularly ? his answer to my questions revealed that he had no regular pattern of bible studies and prayers . So I asked him my own question, if you do not pray and read the Bible regularly where do you think growth would come from ?
Friends , there is no short cut and there is no alternative, the word of God is the only cure of the heart of sinful man on this terrain called earth . If you notice that your bible study life is waning and your prayer life is shallow then be sure that your tendency for carnality is increasing . A hundred years of adequate bible study cannot cure the flesh permanently, only death or the return of our Lord and King would conclude the work of redemption. The bread that would sustain you today should be taken today , that is why it is called manna. Don’t rely on yesterdays dose,it has done its work .
Stay fresh , remain Godly and use your medications regularly.
