28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
If we visit Matthew 5:28, Jesus says just looking is considered adultery that is scary! What Jesus is saying here, is that if we look at someone in a lustful way it is considered cheating. We as Christian do not want to be caught in this situation.
So how can we avoid this? There is two ways.
Notice how the verse is directed to men, because we men struggle with this issue we need to avoid looking at unpleasant scene, and fill our hearts with the word so that we are on top of this.
The Women have a responsibility too, and that is not be a stumbling block for men by the way you dress or the way you attract attention in a negative way.
Imagine if I had a friend and I knew he had an addiction to gambling. How would God feel if I decided to take my friend to an environment where there were slot machines, blackjack ect? I don’t think I would be considered a good friend.
It’s the same for the way we decided on what to wear. If we know God instruct us to be modest and we choose to ignore that and cause many men to sin then we are becoming that stumbling block.
In today’s society, we are bombarded with commercials movies and social media campaigns that tells us we need to look better, dress better by wearing a certain product. When we do these things, we begin to long for self-esteem from others rather than from God. When we understand how much God loves us we don’t need to dress/look the way society dictates.
Knowing all of that can we expect some struggles? Absolutely
For some of us this is not an issue, but for others it is. It’s like any sin we need to work on it until we are right with God. We are not programmed as perfect beings. And God knows this, we need to actively be involved in God’s word so that we many know his will for us.
I hope this has been encouraging for you and may the peace of God help you understand all things.
