Daily Prayer #2 - Learning to be still...

So I hear you say, “Be still... know me.” And that would be great if if could find a way to just get the switch turned inside my head.

You know the switch God. The one that once turned on has me concerned about gas in the car, and a daughter growing older, a father who is dying, and the bills, and the busy, and the things that have climbed into my skin, and the things that open my heart up and leave me bleeding out... you know... the switch. The switch that has me buzzing around, bleeting about, making much ado about what is very likely nothing at all if I were to really think about it. When that switch is on, I am so much less than you made me to be in this world.

I need your stillness. I long for it as a parched man longs for that first cool sip on a scorched day. I need you to turn the switch because it doesn’t seem to matter how hard I try. I just can’t seem to get the damn thing to turn. Be good to me, turn the switch off that has me rattling on and on and on...

Turn me off so that I can learn anew how to be switched back on to you, your way, your truth, your life... Teach me to be still, to breathe once more, to listen for your voice. Teach me to be still... that I may truly know you. Help me to rest in the Stillness or your presence. Teach me to be still so that I might at last hear your voice and know again your goodness, your mercy, you grace...

Amen.

Funny, I just went through a 3 month crash course on how to deal with that switch. It involved just me, GOD, a flawed boat, and a vicious river (visit my posts).
First, God is soveriegn. NOTHING happens that doesn't have His purpose behind it. Every tiny detail is a part of the grand scheme. Learn to accept everything as coming from Him. Thats a tough one that satan will hammer you about but.....
Second, its all about Him !!! We are but clay in the potters hand. I REALLY had to stop making it about me in any way (seek first the kingdom) but.....
Third, He's good. He has your back, even when it doesn't look like it. His plan is much bigger than ours and incorporates the benefit of all creation, not just our own little universe.
In short, its living Proverbs 3:5,6 with the emphasis on NOT leaning on our own understanding, and acknowledging His hand in every circumstance.
I learned patience, I received peace, and was relieved of a lot of weight and responsibility, thank you LORD *-)

God does have a strange sense of humor in delivering the kinds of crash courses we just so happen to need. It sounds like for you it was a tremendous learning experience and for that I am truly thankful. Peace be with you. ~GenXRev

Me too 8-)

Just curious are you into personal development books?

Only one, the BIBLE, lol *-)

Interesting! What do you like most about the Bible?

Read carefully and prayerfully, it gives one a very keen insight into the human condition and Gods remedy for it. Its especially effective when applied to self and not others. It leaves NO room for pride, judgementallism, conceit, or self-centeredness, but simply yields humility, compassion, patience, and mercy. *-)

Well then I would like to give you a FREE gift on my group. I guarantee it will change your life forever. It made a tremendous impact in several areas for me...

Thanks for this, what are your favourite board games?

It seems to depend on the season a bit. Right now I am enjoying several solo wargames - Sherman Leader, Warfighter, and trying to get my head around Nemo's War. With my family I enjoy Ticket to Ride, Carassonne, and Valeria: Card Kingdom. With friends that are willing to go a bit deeper, just about any Euro you can think of with maybe some standouts being Trickerion and Agricola. My collection is easily in the couple hundred - so I do get a bunch to choose from. What about you? Any that you play?

Sounds like some fun games. My favourite has got to be Axis And Allies. You know it?

I do, though I've only played it in digital form and some time ago at that. I've never sat face to face over that one. I've heard its a good time... though I've also heard it can be looong too.

Yes but its so cool. Just curious are you into personal development books?

My reading list is incredibly full right now, so no thank you. Peace

Awesome what are you reading?
