And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. Luke 12:15..
The Lord Jesus was lecturing His disciples when He was interrupted by a man, the man told Him to tell his brothers to share or divide their inherited properties with him.
One thing this man has made up from this act is that, he has placed his inheritance ahead of the Word of God, and Christ who knew about this had to give him some counseling.
Covetousness is a bad, evil, or demonic desire of those who are greed. It is a desire for chasing to acquire possessions without no satisfaction coming on one's life.
Christ Jesus admitted and proclaimed to the disciples that there is absolutely more to this life than just acquiring possessions, that was the reason He asked a question in Mark 8:36, "of what gain is a man if he acquires everything in this world but loses his soul?"
Dear beloved, it is important we understand that our soul is very much valuable than the material things of this world. So therefore, we must ensure to fight for our salvation, we must ensure to secure our life for eternity's sake. Stay away from covetousness, for it will change your view of life and the way you think, giving room to it will lead you to destruction. Stay off covetousness and be content with what you have.
