Feed the hungry! Help those in trouble! Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you shall be as bright as day. [1]
What joy fills the heart of the Father when we act as His representative in bringing love to a heart that is desperately seeking it! God beams with smiles when we reach out to others. It is not the things we give the needy that is as important, it is the heart that gives them. And this heart God looks at whenever we give to the needy.
The poor and destitute desperately look for love. Life seems to beset them with so much unpleasant situations that they look up to God for their sustenance. They expect Him to fulfill His word that says,
Let him have all your worries and cares, for he is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you. [2]
All the while, God is sending us as answers to their prayers. He blesses us above and beyond all we need so that we can bless them. Our blessings are not for ourselves alone, but also for others God has brought to us.
It is a betrayal of trust for me to carve out a line of loyalists behind me, out of the men You graciously led to me, for their portion of meat you kept in my care.
Will we see people who ask of us as people God has entrusted us with their substance?
Then we'll have no grudges but give willingly in love to them.
Let a hungry person realize that God's love is reaching out to them by your heartfelt love.
If we stand by the needy, God will stand by us. The poor and needy cannot repay us for the kindness we show to them, God will.
God blesses those who are kind to the poor. He helps them out of their troubles. He protects them and keeps them alive; he publicly honors them and destroys the power of their enemies. He nurses them when they are sick and soothes their pains and worries.[3]
