Sometimes we get worried and angry at God, because He seems to be giving to others - that are not as 'righteous' as we are - the very things we have been waiting on Him for, for so long. We compare ourselves with others and tend to be envious when they have what we want, particularly when we feel they do not deserve it.
According to the Book of Numbers Chapter 7, from verse 1 to 9; the leaders of Israel donated 6 carts and 12 oxen for the work of the tabernacle. The carts and oxen were shared among the Levites by the family heads. The Gershonites had 2 carts and 4 oxen according to the task given to them. The Merarites were given 4 carts and 8 oxen to do their work. However, the Kohathites were not given anything! Why? Because they were different!
Even though they were one of the 3 families in Levi and were entitled to what the rest also has, they weren't given any cart because their service was different. God put the sons of Kohath into a different use than the others.
While others deal with the utensils in the outer courts and courtyards, the sons of Kohath deals with the Holy things- the stuff that shouldn't be carried on carts, but on human shoulders.
The Sons of Kohath are the ones that carry the Ark, the Ark that carries God's presence!
While others may feel privileged because of their physical resources and possessions, the Kohathites are even more honoured because of The Presence they carry!
How often have we felt left out? Or forgotten, because our mates seem to have gone ahead of us in life's pursuit? Never despair, don't murmur, for you are different! Do you know why? Because you carry the presence!
You may not have all the flashy possessions as they, but what you have is worth more than all the possessions of this world. I would rather have God as mine than the things God can give, for when I have Him, I have all things!
The Sons of Gershon and Merari usually went ahead of the sons of Kohath in carrying all the utensils of the tabernacle, whenever they needed to set up a new camp but the camp can't settle until the Ark arrives - the Ark on the shoulder of the Kohathites.
So, it doesn't matter how long others have gone ahead of you, they will wait in line to salute your arrival! Why, you ask? Need I tell you again? Because you are different!
Thank you so much for such a reminder. Often I felt it that way that my brothers and sisters in Christ are so ahead of me materially, but I also realise as a levite I play a very different role in my spiritual life; while their ministry is more towards the marketplace.
