Being the greatest is every man's desire. Being the greatest is what many of us think is impossible but Jesus Christ is of a different opinion. It is possible! How you may ask? Jesus brought out a child and put him forth as an example. See Matthew 18:1-4. Jesus made the child an example of the greatest in the kingdom of God.
What is in a child that makes him the greatest?
Matthew 18:3-4 gives us the answer.
Matthew 18
[3]And said, Truly I say to you, unless you repent (change, turn about) and become like little children [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving], you can never enter the kingdom of heaven [at all].
[4]Whoever will humble himself therefore and become like this little child [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving] is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. [Amplified Version ]
Clearly stated by Christ, the greatest is one who has the character of living a life of trusting. To trust is to believe that somebody or something is good, sincere honest and will not try to harm or deceive you. This character is what God is looking out for in believers in Christ. Trusting God enables him to bless us. Every child has God's character in them. To be the greatest therefore requires having the attitude of trusting, loving, being humble and forgiving. These characters are godly given by God himself and we should desire it. What does it mean to be humble, forgiving, and loving?
