Eino Harkonen was a realistic painter from northern Karelia, Finland.

Above is a picture of him working on one of his paintings. He was born in Joensuu 10.3.1886 and he died in Eno 4.2.1944. For these altar paintings he propped up a wooden cross in a field close to his farmhouse. Another one he had leaning against his house. He actually had a man on the cross as he painted. As models he used locals from Eno. His wife Alli posed for the women figures. Below is his self portrait.
He has painted the altar paintings in 5 Lutheran churches in Northern Carelia. This one is Kuusjärvi church,with it's gothic style altar painting below.
This is the Valtimo church altar painting. Harkonen painted it in 1931.
Below is the Eno Lutheran church and its altar painting.
Tuupovaara church which was built in 1902. The altar painting was painted in 1942. It is called the Resurrection.
Raakkyla church is the last of the five altar painting.
It's altar painting also depicts the Resurrection.
