I really should have taken some before and after pictures... but while the house was completely trashed documenting the mess was the last thing on my mind!
We had a giant storage issue, mostly due to the basement being filled with the forgotten junk of the previous occupant.
(This in combination with my daughter moving back in a few months ago, so the one room we did have for storage space was converted back to a bedroom.)
And then of course there is the matter of my hubby fulfilling his lifelong dream of a pool table, hah!
But one massive dumpster and some deep cleaning later and Voila!
A house becomes a home again, just in time for Christmas :)
I've been saying this a lot lately, but sometimes it's the small things that can make all the difference.
It is the small things that make the difference, it just depends on whether or not we notice at the time :)

I think people tend to get slightly more introspective when it gets tumultuous because they have to focus on things they can control so they don't get so utterly depressed about the things that are harder to control (I don't know about "can't control" because while it's obvious that you may not be able to directly control some things, you can always influence it even if it's extremely indirectly).
