When did gift wrapping become so expensive?

in #christmas8 years ago

Well I always like to get my Mom something for Christmas but she really doesn't want anything or have room for it. I started buying books of tickets for my Dad years ago. I would have the bar special order 2 or 3 books for gifts. Boo for my Dad, few for my Mom, some for my other relatives, some for the bartenders, and whatever was left for me. Back then almost all tickets were $1. After my Dad passed my Mom got the lions share of the tickets as she had too many other things and didn't want any more. Every year I get yelled at for buying her tickets. She complains the whole time she sits there having a blast scratching them.

Well this year she said no more tickets. Like she doesn't say that every year. So I ordered her a 5lb box of one of her favorite candies. Was going to buy just a few tickets to put in the box but of course the Holiday spirit kicked in and I bought the whole book. Well she didn't want tickets so I had an idea. I'll use them as wrapping paper. So the project began.

First I took the box of candy out of the shipping box and removed the packing material. Then I started by wrapping the box of candy with with 12 tickets:

Next I lined the inside of the shipping box with 18 more tickets:

Put the candy back in the lined shipping box:

6 more tickets on the folds of the top of the inside of the box for good measure:

So now I finished wrapping that box:

Now I need to hide the box to get it to my Mom's. Since I frequently take boxes to list on ebay to her house to print the labels (never bothered to my my printer to my house) I decided to put it in a bigger shipping box. Well more tickets left so why not?

Drop the wrapped shipping box into the bigger box to hide it:

And here it is all packed up and "awaiting payment so I can print the shipping label".

Just a reminder tape dispensers are sharp. DNA included with gift.

So that is how you spend $300 SBD on wrapping a $120 box of candy. I could have done a neater job but too much tape ruins the tickets so I went with the quick and sloppy look. I'm waiting for the complaining to start on Christmas and carry on though New Years. I always buy tickets that take awhile to do.

If you are going to try this make sure you don't get tape on the scratch off area or barcode.

Sort:

wait you wrapped it in scratch tickets? lololol that's hilarious!

Yep. Not the first time I've done it but the first time with a package this big and more than one layer of boxes. The doing the inside of the box is new too.

I am very interested to see what a $120 box of candy looks like

Just a regular 5lb box of good chocolate. Good chocolate is over $20 a pound. Even with the discount for buying 5lb it's still $119 and change. I did have it custom made with her favorites but that didn't cost anything extra.

Please don't downvote one of my posts again. I don't want anything to do with you.
