This was a bit of a shock for me. Just a few weeks ago I saw they were making a new “Millennium” film. Well, the first one (a remake of the Swedish) was directed by David Fincher, one of the greats and it was supposed to be the first chapter of an adult r-rated trilogy.
Then it wasn’t much of a success… not with the public nor critics. But since it wasn’t a big success the studio shut down the other chapter’s. Even if it was a Fincher project, it’s normal I guess. That’s how Hollywood works.
So when I saw a new chapter was coming out, I was happy for a second there. Since the movie is actually gaining an audience in DVD and streaming, I assumed they started the project again.
However here is the crazy part… it’s not a chapter of the trilogy…
I had seen a new book of the series out… taught it was a collection of something, lost writings … whatever. But no, it’s actually a new book written by some other guy. (The original author is dead)
And I haven’t read it, but the consensus is that it’s very bad, that it stopped having all of the interesting parts and complexities and became more of an exploration book, were we have violent scenes just for the sake of violence.
So … the studios had this great material…. Loved by millions… they have the best director in the world who really wants to make the franchise…. And do they do…. They get a “not even part of the series” book and some other director and make an exploration film… instead of a David Fincher adaptation of the most sold book recently…
What is going on???!!
As always, thank you for reading.
