Interestingly it's been debunked that the Roman games were violent and killer-like. And it was very rarely that someone was killed in the games. I mean when you think of it, it doesn't make sense to get your best gladiators killed.
I wish I had some links for that. But I think Roman violence is a hollywood bastardisation! :)
