Chopping Mall (1986) - Cheesy Horror Movie With A Banging Sound Track

in #cinetv4 years ago

Chopping Mall is the pinnacle of 80's cheese packed with low budget practical effects, bad acting, and a killer soundtrack made in a bygone are when the synthesizer was king. The body count begins when a group of teenager decide to throw an after hours party in Park Plaza Mall the night after the security system is upgraded. Ignoring the rule of no sex, drugs, or rock and roll they are now locked in a mall with robots out for blood. Its Chopping Mall!

Done on a budget the movie is the perfect intersection of teen slasher and 80's culture. After the success of Friday the 13th, Halloween, and Nightmare On Elm Street movie studios started churning out slasher films looking for another success. Many of them generic and forgettable. Chopping Mall stands out by embracing the culture of the time with taking place in a mall with robots that will kill on site.

For me personally, the high light of the movie is a brief cameo from Dick Miller (Gremlins, The Howling) as the night janitor. The combination of the budget special effects, bad acting, and killer soundtrack this movie is a "its so bad its good" time capsule from 80's that is a perfect viewing for a drunken Saturday night with friends.
