NEWTON : Reality of World's Largest Democracy (Real Story)

Namastay World

This movie is based on the bitter reality of World's Largest Democracy (INDIA) and it's election process.
A World's Largest Democracy with over 800 million Voters and where the whole election process costs more than $5 Billion!!
The Movie is about the election process in a small village of Chhatisgarh situated in Central India. The Village is situated in jungles full of minerals and the villagers are "Adiwasi"

Before I tell you about the movie, I want you to know who are "Adiwasi" and why they are termed as Adiwasi.

The term Adivasi derives from the Hindi word ‘adi‘ which means of earliest times or from the beginning and ‘vasi‘ meaning inhabitant or resident, and it was coined in the 1930s, largely a consequence of a political movement to forge a sense of identity among the various indigenous peoples of India.

We are making Tribes here and building a group of like minded peoples , Just like Tribes there are more than 200 Tribes of these Adiwasis speaking more than 100 different language. You may feel like this number is too big but let me tell you my friend, this number is too small as compared to past.

Many Adiwasi Tribes got removed from today's society where every item is being manufactured and get processed in factories. Their Land is being captured for the sake of better economy and it's resources.

In India these Tribes are victims of modern economy, maoists and democratic government. Still struggling in their life with limited resources as they had to relocate because their land was being captured by Government for the sake of Better Resource Utilization and Modern Economy.

This is one of the real movies and a small part of bigger reality where the director tried to shed some light on the benifits of democracy for these adiwasis.
The story starts with our lead role actor "Newton" who was working as a clerk in Election Commision of India whose prime duty was to conduct election peacefully and righteously. Newton was very honest and dedicated person. He got a duty to conduct election in a village where there was around 70 registered voters but the area was actually in control of Naxal Maoists who were boycotting democratic elections and killing Tribal people who were in support of Democracy.

Newton was unaware about the situation of that village but dedicated to complete his duty. They started the election process but not a single voter came to cast their vote. Suddenly he got a call from higher police official that some foreign journalists are about to visit their polling booth. They were told to bring people from villages if they are not coming by themselves.

They bring the voters to the polling booth but none of them were aware about the voting process, as I told you that Newton is Honest and he wanted a fair elections that's why he tried to educate people about the process of voting and its importance in their society. He started telling the names of registered leaders whom the villagers could vote but they even never heard the names of those leaders.

That's Strange but True, In India many people cast their votes without knowing their leaders or by others influence or by force or by by greed of money.

The director made this movie a little slow but he pointed out many sad realities in between.

The villagers were told to play with voting machine and cast their votes like a game. If you like any party's symbol then just press the button that's all.

Journalists came and recorded villagers giving votes and they thought everything is going as per democracy. They reported it as a victory of democracy.

In one of the last scenes, Large cranes, Trucks were shown carrying minerals out of the land of those villagers where they used to live.

Directors main motto was to show the viewers that the main problem was not just those maoists but also the corrupt democratic government. We can't ignore Corruption in Democracy and only put blames on maoists for the misery of those Tribal People.

You can imagine the depth of corruption by the last scene where Newton was awarded for his punctuality because it's rare in those government offices.
