Old Rome

What once was a bustling city is now in ruins in the centre of Rome. Having first been developed in the 7th century BC as an Etruscan burial ground, over the centuries it was developed by the Romans as the social, commercial, and political centre of Rome. It became the city core for government, law courts, gladiatorial combat, and religion, all while being THE marketplace hub in the city. Everything happened here.

Almost all of the Forum was built because of Julius Caesar and his successor, Augustus, but after the fall of the Roman Empire it was mostly destroyed and was mostly used as a cattle field. People flock to Rome to see the Collosseum, and while you should, you should also be exploring this ancient city.

I didn't want to leave...

excellent photos and very good information, since it is always written a lot of the Roman Colosseum, and the importance is not given to the marketing center of ancient Rome, which is full of history, excellent post @ travelingsomm

It was not an Etruscan cemetery, but of an enemy tribe called "Latini".
