IMSLP - International Music Scores Library! (Online and Free)

in #classical-music7 years ago (edited)

Today I want to indicate for you a site where they are stored and have a large collection of music scores. The International Music Score Library Project (or IMSLP) is a wiki-based project that aims to create a virtual library of public domain musical scores.

Started on February 16, 2006, on February 19, 2018, whit more than 420,000 scores of 129,000 works by more than 16,000 composers were computed. The online library consists primarily of scanned files, with manuscripts, old, and historical non-copyrighted music editions. Also supports scores of contemporary composers who want to share their music under the Creative Commons license.

One of IMSLP's main projects was loading. and publication of the complete works of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), the Bach Gesellschaft Ausgabe (Bach Society Edition) series is a compendium of 46 volumes published between 1851 and 1899 by the publisher Bach-Gesellschaft and Breitkopf & Härtel of Leipzig .

In addition to this valuable edition of the complete works of J. S. Bach, on the site we find several manuscripts, and many other editions of the German master and other composers. Today the platform has a complete catalog of the works of Frédéric Chopin, Johannes Brahms, Georg Friedrich Händel, and a large part of the works of Franz Liszt.

With musical scores of multiple composers dedicated to the most different musical instruments, including the guitar, this is always a safe source of research with authentic documents.

In addition to the digital repository, the platform offers musicological encyclopaedia files, with several editions of the same composition, historical analysis and musicological comments accompanying the scores.

The site is officially recommended by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which uses it extensively in some of its open courses. It is suggested as a bibliographic resource by several university libraries, such as the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Manhattan School of Music, Stanford University, McGill University, University of Wisconsin-Madison among others.

For now this is. The main philosophy of IMSLP is to make music easily accessible to everyone, free of charge by anyone with Internet access. The team is currently looking for people willing to mirror their files to increase available bandwidth. For the sustainability of the project the website counts donations and affiliate program, in which 10% of the purchases made on Amazon through its links are intended for its support.
