Drastic changes

As you can see, the waves are crashing in on the beach in Kerala. It's not just one beach, either. Several beaches witnessed such an event and many houses are on the verge of being washed away. These houses belong to the fishermen community who are already burdened with loans that they have to pay for houses that have already been destroyed. They are now living in thatched huts and not many are doing anything to help these folks.

It is not enough for the people in power to keep talking in public places about how and what they are doing for the people but to help such communities who are struggling due to such drastic changes in the climate. Have they caused it? No. They are just commonplace fishermen who sail into the sea to catch fish and sell it daily to buy their daily meals. They cannot even afford to send their children to school let alone buy decent clothes.

What can be done?
The authorities can use the funds to build strong houses for such communities with the help of NGO's at a safe distance from the sea. They can also provide skilled jobs to those who do not or cannot venture into the sea. The children can be provided clean clothes and nourishing food and this is not an impossible task either. It can be done with the help of generous minds and helping hands.

As for the changing climate, we can do our bit by reducing emissions into the atmosphere, reducing pollution in the land, water, and air, and preserving nature by planting more trees. We can also reuse and recycle products and thus prevent more pollution. The amount of plastic that is dumped into the land and ocean is huge. People should realize the damage done to this planet because of such pollution and work toward stopping further damage.

Of late, the humidity in Kerala has become intolerable and the increasing sea heat is probably causing the waves to crash in on the shores and claim the land. Kerala is a small land; if the sea decides to take over, nobody can do anything about it. I just hope that people come to their senses and do something about this before natural disasters. As it is, many young people are leaving the state for good in search of better prospects and lifestyles. Added to the misery is the incompetency of the politicians who are mesmerized by the power they have. Nobody dares question the politicians. Life is not at all ideal for the common man. Tourism is also not very top class either. I wonder if the boats that are used by the tourists are safe. It is up to the tourist to check for good services and be safe and not sorry.

Rains are now looked forward to by the people of the state. The winter months were never cold and the heat is building up along with the humidity. So, I just hope and pray that in the coming days, we get enough rain to fill our wells.
