We’re already seeing the effects of human-caused climate change — but nature can help us.
We’re already seeing the effects of climate change, but thankfully, we’re equipped with the most effective tool to mitigate it: our nature. Protecting nature today means a better planet for future generations. Greta Thunberg is a Swedish climate activist who guides us through a global climate demonstration focusing on nature. Is this climate change life-threatening, and are we doing enough to secure a future of ourselves?
Greta Thunberg was in conference with world leaders on climate change. She gave a speech that became world-famous. This speech was about how politicians and leaders around the world say they care and that they should do something about the greenhouse gas but never act. This speech basically assumes that we should halve all our emissions, and if we do not, irreversible chain reactions will occur.
These emissions will be the reason why we young people, and the generations ahead, need to clean up and live with the consequences of ignorant and self-centered people sitting high up in the systems. Self-centered people who do not think long-term about the world around them, and rather sit and count money and write contracts for future cooperation planning. Today, more and more people are changing their daily habits to take better care of our planet and to repair the damage caused by decades of environmental exploitation - but there is only so little we can do if people still sit today and allow emissions from factories, “hobby emissions” such as travelling and other unnecessary emissions, and quantities of CO2 from transport.
The problem with this climate crisis is that there are still many who still ignore what is happening and choose to pass the responsibility on to the others around them. Many people think "we will do it tomorrow" and that "those who are larger consumers in this CO2 situation should start first" are many factors of why others do not take it seriously and make things go slower. Those who come from countries where using cars are normal, but too poor to take airplanes point their fingers to those who can afford flights and believe that they should change first. Countries where using motorcycles are normal point to countries where cars are luxury and think they should change first. And so it goes downhill, where those who can only afford a bike think that those who have motorcycles should stop. Here we come back to how people are too self-centered and do not think about what the beautiful result will be if we all just do a little. Everyone knows what is happening and everyone is aware of it, but it requires less talk and more activity - something that Greta Thunberg fails to do herself.
This "school strike for climate" demonstration has attracted attention, and it has made people aware. What is missing is that one seizes and uses the knowledge that has been given to us. Possibly the lack of activity may be due to the fact that one is not fully aware of the consequences and what will happen, because this change takes a long time and that it is gradual. Therefore, it becomes difficult to see that the earth is in danger of being damaged, lest one be exposed to the real and serious chain reactions that take place, but hiding elsewhere on the earth that we can’t see. Therefore, you have to rely on what is said and initiate a process where you can walk more, use less CO2-rich transport, choose solutions that are less harmful such as paper bags instead of plastic bags and such simple things as turning off the lights when not in use. All these factors can make up a small percentage of someone's life, but a large percentage worldwide. For example; If everyone in one city chooses to use 10% less electricity every day, it is enough to drop plans of using a whole new area for new power plants – whether wind turbines, coal or water. Worldwide, this can help save billions of trees and plants that help us clean our air, and thus get us on the right path to a better future.
