Yesterday we went rock climbing on Mottarone, a 1400m mountain in northern Italy, between the lakes Lago d'Orta and Lago Maggiore.
It's great and quiet spot with 100+ routes for everyone from 3a to 7c+ (or 5.3 to 5.13a), some nice multi-pitch, and a lot of big boulders; the wall is very good and with a great grip (maybe too much, you will get a lot of scratches on your finger and knee, but your feet won't move from the wall).
Click here for a Google Maps link.
Highly suggested if you're in the area (also write us if you're going there, so we can meet up! We live closeby).
Here is a PDF with more info (in Italian).
How to find good climbing spots nearby?
We use three Android apps which are very good:
If you speak Italian there are also a couple of useful website with map search:
Then we also aks to people in local climbing gyms, and search for local forums and Facebook climbing groups.
Anything else we should consider?
I like to climbing, godjob my friend
Thank you! :)
Looks amazing! What did you end up climbing?
It was the first time outdoor with my wife :) So we did some easy single pitch routes up to 5c (but I can't do more than 6b+ even indoor anyway).
On this granite our knees were all bleeding! haha
That's fun. Make sure to wear pants next time!
