中國農曆新年，也是黃帝紀元（黃曆）新年，俗稱過年，就是大年三十到正月十五，前前後後足足有半月之久，在這段時間，作為中國人是怎麼過得呢？
大年三十前就是打掃衛生，不管哪裡都要打掃得乾乾淨淨，寓意除舊迎新，這一趟衛生打掃下來估計累的腰酸腿疼了。別急，這只是開始，接著便是準備年夜飯了，雞鴨魚一樣不能少，林林總總，一家人得有一二十個菜，菜需要早早上座，一家人坐在一起，慢嚼細咽，喝酒聊天，電視放著春晚，基本上不看，但要放，顯得熱鬧，一兩個小時後吃飯結束，大家就坐在電視機旁看春晚。到午夜時分，鞭炮齊鳴，響聲如雷，寓意新年到來，炮聲得持續兩三個小時，即便你已入睡，也會被鞭炮聲震醒。
接下來便是吃拜年酒，拜年酒必須在上午，一般七八點出門，八九點需到對方家，血緣越近、輩份越高的拜年在先，比如曾祖健在，先拜見曾祖，曾祖之下家族成員悉數到場，晚輩得給長輩準備好禮物，長輩得給晚輩準備好紅包，大家拉拉家常，聊聊天，之後便是吃午飯，喝的大部分是中國特色-白酒，紅酒少許，飲料是女人和孩子專用。完畢，聊天繼續，更是少不了麻將撲克，小孩子就成群結隊到處玩耍，少不了用紅包錢賣零食鞭炮。直到傍晚，吃完晚飯，途中酒量好的會再喝點白酒，吃完喝完大部分打道回府，少部分繼續夜戰麻將撲克。第二天繼續到以上流程，爺爺輩、父輩、同輩、妻子家的爺爺輩、父輩輩、同輩等等，依次吃拜年酒，如果家族龐大，基本上要持續要正月十五之後，熱鬧非凡。
年是中國傳統最重要的節日，沒有之一。
