"The 3 out of 10 rule"

in #coaching8 years ago

Let me be clear that the 3 out of 10 rule is not a scientifically proven rule. It's a statement that i make because out of my own experience and events that occurred in my working life so far. The 3 out of 10 rule is a serious problem in my eyes and has a serious impact on the quality of any business that pretends to have the best possible candidates for the job.

What is the 3 out of 10 rule?

I dare to say that in any kind of career, may it be a Doctor, Coach, Professor, Salesman or Garbage collector and you would pick randomly 10 of them of the street, you will find the following;

"Three are rubbish at what they do, four are average, two are good and one is really good at what they do".

This leaves us with 3 out of 10 people know or moreover want to do their job with full commitment. They have the passion and quality to deliver a job as the job expected to be done. I see for the last 20 years people getting jobs based on their name, connections and other less important reasons. What is it that people don't go the extra mile to hire the right person? Is it Politics, self interest maybe money? Why we don't want the best people for the particular job?

Of course there will be good people in the right places, but i dare to say that is only 30% of the cases out there. There is 70% producing bad or half work. And it's accepted that mediocre results or behaviour are fine. In my line of work i see it every day. Good Coaches, who do fantastic work are not getting a job or don't get a chance. Coaches without any results or making real progress with a "big name" get the best jobs over and over again!!

Am pointing out this problem because i am trying to find reasons and solutions. I will always look in the mirror and ask myself; "What am I doing wrong"? Maybe my whole theory is seen as nonsense and you get what you deserve. Thats why I am interested in other people's opinion and want to hear your experience and solutions if you agree with me.
