The Forest Cobra - One of South Africa's Deadly Dozen Snakes.
One of 5 Cobra Species found in South Africa. It is a non-spitter.
The longest Cobra found in South Africa, growing up to 3.5m
This is a very alert fast snake and in my opinion, among the most intelligent of snakes. Here at SnakeCity, we can call these snakes at meal time.
My only experience catching this snake in the wild, was when I was 12 years old visiting Malawi. After a thunderstorm in the evening we saw 3 of them on the road and I was with my father who managed to catch one.
In South Africa, they are found in Zululand and on two occasions I have seen them in the wild, but both times they disappeared into the thick bush so fast that I had no chance to catch them.
These snakes are amazing, they eat anything - rodents, birds, frogs, lizards, other snakes and even fish.
By far this is my favorite snake.

I enjoy reading about the cobra, but truthfully just it just scares me to think about seeing one in nature. Can’t believe you caught one as a child. Scarey. 🐓🐓
