Why Learning Code Is Like Learning To Read and Write the Language of Tomorrow.

in #coding7 years ago

Back in the past, when most of Europe couldn't read of write, their lives were literally owned by the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church. As more people learn to read, they learnt that most of what the churches taught were wrong. As more and more people learn to read and write, people began to take control of their lives once again. Although that metaphor was a bit extreme, it still relates to my topic: learn to read code. For each day that passes, more jobs are lost to automation. Recently, McDonalds announced that they are replacing 2,500 human cashiers with Kiosks machines. Of course, most of their workers are just part-timers who are looking for extra cash. But for the majority who are struggling to find a spot in the employment field, being ousted by a machine is devastating. Learning to code opens up doors of opportunity, trust me!  Check out these stats from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Even though software developers have been around for ages, demands for them continue to rise. Personally, I do not think this trend will stop anytime soon. In fact, it will go up. I picture a world one day where regularly office work will be coding instead of paperwork. But all these are easier said than done. Learning to code is like learning an entirely new language. It does not come easy, but if you truly invest in yourself, I have no doubts that you'll succeed.
