Today, for the first time in many moons, I spent some time playing around with easy coding on my Raspberry Pi 400.
FYI: I am not a coder, I am not much of a tech guy ( although I have spent 5.5 years on the blockchain and in crypto, by now ) and I'm definitely more tech-oriented than the average Joe or Joan.
It's fair to say though that I used to be quite interested in coding, in my late high school ( and early University? ) years.
Back then, I tried my hands on Visual Basic and Turbo Pascal ( by borrowing books from the library and buying a book or two on game making ). I soon found out that programming was too complicated for me, too over my head. Or, perhaps, I was too impatient. What I managed to create could hardly be called 'games' nor programms. So I started focusing on other things, once again.
Life took over.
It's now almost 25 years later and I'm feeling an urge to get into coding again but not necessarily to make ( computer ) games.
Today I felt an itch returning, an urge to perhaps find a way to make some sort of website/ space, where I can share my dino stories, outside of my Hive blog and in a different shape or form.
I connected my raspberry Pi 400 to an external monitor ( in the place that I'm house sitting ) and found a little app called 'Tell Your Story', built with a programm/ HTML editor called Trinket.
By making some changes in an existing template, I quickly managed to tell my own story. And, in the process, I learnt some more HTML.
I love how this little programm turns my story into some kind of comic, as I have thought of going for some sort of graphic novel, several times before. Let's say that I keep feeling that just making books, the ordinary way, isn't creative enough for me.
It was fun to play around with this today and I feel that this is only the beginning of a new way of telling my stories.
TO BE CONVINUED..
I studied this in UNI and I feel you, career as a programmer is too much for me. But I found something that is more of what I like (sorta Business / Data Analyst). The tasks are not as complicated as a full time programmer but still I can do some minimal coding for data and stuff. I like it so far and I do like being productive. For me, the tasks are therapeutic and time just flies..
Anyway, happy holidays! I hope you're having a blast.
Hi there!
Nice to see you pup up in my ( brother from another mother's ) comment section, for a change :<)
Yeah, I'm sure you can relate. Thanks for sharing a bit of your personal story.
I tend to think programming was even harder, back in the 90s. My younger brother ( who was born in 1990 ), got into gamemaking, around the year 2000/2001/2002 and discovered a programm called 'Gamemaker' that made it possible for non devs/-programmers to make a game.
Tools like that didn't exist when you and I grew up
and if they did, how would we find them? No internet ;<)
As you know about me, by now, I love to mix things up.
Learning a bit of programming/ coding, while sharing my stories and illustrations - and then throwing hobbies like chess and playing the ukulele into the mix - sounds like my sort of fun time. And as a bonus, I'm getting paid for this.
No 'holidays' here ( as I don't have a 9 to 5 haha! ) but I guess other people are having holidays, so I feel a little free-er than per usual haha!
Sending you a hug
🤗
I agree, programming was way more difficult before!
Well, I don't really celebrate these holidays lol. And I feel free just the same!
;<)
Feeling free is what counts. Now more than ever!
Ah, see! Tech always is part of the process. I had to laugh at 'doggy style'.
Haha! A dirty mind is a joy forever.
That AI piece is creepy but awesome.
It's as if I could have created this in another - somewhat darker - dimension.
Sending you a dino hug (without the claws and with extended arms)
The AI can get incredibly creepy... Downright scary!!!! I spent FAR too much time on it yesterday 😂
Brrrr.... Be careful ;^)
😁 turbo and pascal was the shit in the past. Would try to check this web out. Seems a little fun project to do! Also Vincent, there's programming or learn2code community https://peakd.com/c/hive-155735 which maybe you'd be interested in to post and share about this next time.
I played around with TP when you were still running around in diapers haha! ;<)
You'd probably find Trinket interesting. Give it a try, some time, and let me know how you like it :<)
Cheers for the heads up about that coding community. It seems pretty inactive but perhaps some dino energy can change that around.
And it features MMW. It's Merry Christmas to me.
Nobody is a born programmer. And it's definitely a strt of a new story. Of raptor the programmer.
My experience is C, C++, basics of python and Java... But never had a pleasure of working on a project personal or official.
Haha, it won't be about raptor the programmer ( I think ).
H.S. will know his way around the blockchain though, as you can see in my latest Sunday Bloody Sunday-The Bear Market story.
And yeah, I feel like drawing (the character that I based on ) you into the story, once again.
P.S. It's about time that you get your programming skills going on a personal project. Find that project and then just take it step by baby wolf step...
Your support for the current HiveBuzz proposal (#199) is much appreciated but it will expire end of December!
May we ask you to review the new proposal (#248) and renew your support so that our team can continue their work next years?
You can support the new proposal on Peakd, Ecency, or using HiveSigner.
We wish you a Happy New Year!Dear @vincentnijman,
