And when I mention passion and coffee, I mean really special coffee. The one I am purchasing is not from a famous brand like Lavazza, Kimbo or Illy (from these I think only Illy is a good one). My coffee is in different group. The group of specialty coffees. And this is the ETHIOPIA Guji Uraga by Dabov.
Dabov is a Bulgarian coffee judge, who manages to find the best and most limited coffee batches from all around the world and he works directly with the farmers. With small batches I mean really small ones - from couple hundred kilos to about 1-2 tons at best. And although the coffee is very limited, the price is fair, comparable with the most expensive “top brands”.
I usually order my coffee ground, because my equipment does not include a good grinder. Sometimes though, I purchase whole beans, which I grind with my hand grinder. The results are not very pleasant, because there are a lot of uneven particles, a lot of which are very fine, but there’s really a lot of difference between freshly ground coffee and one that has been ground for weeks and waiting. So when I order my coffee, usually about 800g-1000g I tend to leave 200-300g of it unground and keep it for the last week of the month 🤓
Here... you can see the unevenness of the particles. I hope that soon I’ll manage to buy a better electric grinder, which will cost me about $200-$300, and yet this is an investment. Then I will be capable of bringing all my coffee at home, thus enjoy the fresh ground coffee better! There are a lot of more expensive grinders, but I don’t think at this moment I need something better. Most of my coffee is ground for a V60 pour over, which is relatively coarse (compared to espresso coffee), and $200 grinders tend to handle the task pretty well.
V60 brewing method is relatively simple and you don’t need any expensive equipment in order to achieve better quality of the final product. This makes it very good for home coffee brewers and more amateur ones. At the same time, as simple it is, it’s often preferred by a lot of professional brewers too. It’s also the preferred method by me, showing off the best sweetness and aromatic qualities of the particular coffee beans.
The ETHIOPIA Guji Uraga is a very nice coffee, bringing very pleasant fruit aromas and some chocolate notes too. Blueberries and raisins sweetness, and beautiful aftertaste. Specialty coffees makes me happy and I really don’t want to have something else in my mouth for hours, just to keep the aftertaste more.
Have a nice day and make sure you enjoy a nice coffee, if you have one around.
