Coins of my father's: Pennies

in #coins7 years ago (edited)

My dad was a pretty avid coin collector and I picked up his Canadian coin collection when he passed in 2008. He traded and bought a lot of coin lots then would resell rolls of specific coins to fund his next coin purchase. The majority of what I have consists of these rolls of coins. I also have his books of coins, what he considered to be his main collection. I'd love to be able to complete it, but unfortunately I don't have the funds to go after the more expensive missing coins and I don't have the knowledge he did to properly price and sell the "reselling stock" he had. I do have a list of the rolls of coins I have and I can do some research on the value if anyone is interested in fairly buying or trading some of them for the missing pieces of the main collection.

The 2nd series of pennies

Unfortunately there were no pennies from the first series from 1858-1920 but I have the majority of the 2nd series from 1920 when the penny took it's current size to 2012 when it was taken out of circulation.

The majority of the missing coins are from the 20s as would be expected

1920 penny. Oldest one I own. Crazy to think it's almost 100 years old

1986-2012

Canada stopped minting pennies in 2012 and have eliminated them from circulation. Transactions are now rounded to the nearest 5¢.

Speaking of 5¢, keep an eye on my feed for the next entry which will feature nickels from 1922 to today.

What a great collection! Nice to have something he worked hard on.

Thank you! I'd like to be able to finish his work. I have family in Canada gathering the ones from 2008 and after to get the set up to date. Also, I'm working on posting the nickels set. I have a book for every denomination.

Impressive collection in your two posts.

Hopefully you can earn a few $$ on steemit to help the purchase of the missing ones.

That would be very nice. If I can I want to complete the nickels set first but really I'd like to finish all of them.

Good luck!
