Wow, it feels like it has been a whole year since my last post here on this platform, and good heavens, it appears that Hive has gone up in value since last year. January's almost over, and one of my New Year's resolutions in 2025 was to get back to writing again, so why not come back to Hive?
This is my first post for the year and I will be focusing on coins and banknotes from the Philippines. My collection has been building up steadily so I have enough to write about in future posts.

1-Piso Coin
One of the most commonly seen coins in circulation in the Philippines is the 1-Peso coin. This coin is also known for carrying the country's national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. Not only is he a local icon, but also an international figure, with statues dedicated to him in the US, UK, Spain, Japan, and even China.
The coin is made of nickel-plated steel and weighs 5.35 grams. Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the central bank in the Philippines, has minted and released this coin from 2003 to 2017. This series is often called the BSP series of 1-piso coins.
This series of coins is highly sought after by collectors so that they can complete the set. The most wanted coin in this series is 2005, often called the "Hard-To-Find" coin. The value of the 2005 coin has recently skyrocketed. Though no information exists yet about the mintage figures for each year of this 1-piso series, most collectors would consider 2005 to be the most challenging to find, which agrees with what many collectors are saying.

The 1-piso coins (BSP coin series) have documented varieties that can be identified on both the obverse and reverse sides of the coin. However, most collectors focus on collecting coins based on the year date to complete their sets.

That's all for now and for sure, there will be more about coins and banknotes from the Philippines in future posts.
